This program is designed for students who wish to learn or improve Vietnamese language skills, have a strong interest in doing course work, and carrying individual research projects that relate to Vietnam.
Program Goals
The goals of this program are to increase language ability for all levels of Vietnamese language learners and to increase knowledge about Vietnam in the context of Southeast Asia and East Asia. These goals are achieved through intensive language course work focusing on Vietnam, and by extensive field excursions throughout the country, interviews with different social groups, and optional internships with Vietnamese non-governmental organizations.
Program Highlights
Visits to cultural and historical sites in northern, central, and southern Vietnam; treks to minority villages in northern mountain provinces and/or the Central Highlands; course work with Vietnam specialists from various educational and research agencies; interviews with social groups and optional participation in the activities of Vietnamese non-governmental organizations.
Duration
Fall Semester: 17 weeks (late August - mid-December) Spring Semester: 17 weeks (after Lunar New Year - early June)
Eligibility Requirements
Overall GPA 2.75; one Asian studies course. Graduate students interested in Vietnamese studies, comparative post-communism, and development studies are also accepted.

E-Mail Access Internet access is available to participants. Students may set up a personal account with a local internet service provider or utilize services provided by the A2 guest house where they live.
